Frequently Asked Questions.

Q How can EFT be effective on such a wide range of issues?
A All of these seemingly unrelated issues have common emotional roots and emotions play a large part in the way that our bodies perform too. EFT works at the emotional root level of the problem. For more information in this area see How does EFT work? and the The Mind-body connection.

Q Is EFT safe?
A With EFT there is nothing put into the body nor are you hypnotised. It is normal though to feel a little tired after a session, with some people feeling this more than others. Sometimes during the initial stages of working on a problem the perceived level of its intensity can rise. This is a good sign that EFT is beginning to work and is not a cause for concern. If you intend to use these techniques, you must agree to take full responsibility for your own physical and emotional well-being. A small minority of people who have repressed a severe emotional disturbance can (not surprisingly I think) experience intense emotions when this is released. "Forewarned is forearmed". If you have any reason to think you might be in this group then go very gently if working on your own, or discuss it with anyone else who you are working with.

Q Does EFT always work?
A No. In the hands of a skilled practitioner success rates of 85% or more are frequently obtained. A beginner would be unlikely to get this high a success rate immediately, but they could still expect to have a high degree of success, which would increase with experience and knowledge.

Q What prevents EFT from working?
A Perhaps the most frequent cause is trying to use EFT too globally: it is most effective when used on feelings related to a specific event. Another common and easy to solve problem is dehydration. Many people are mildly dehydrated for much of the day. Drink a glass of water prior to starting the EFT session and sip water as you go through the session. Real difficulties arise when someone has a reason to hold onto their issue, one possible example being a health condition that could bring them a lot of attention or consideration that they might not otherwise get. We call this a secondary gain or benefit. An experienced EFT practitioner should be able to spot such blocks and overcome them most of the time.

Q Can I treat myself with EFT?
A Yes you can, that is how I started out myself and it can be done very effectively. Anyone doing this however takes absolute responsibility for their own well-being. I began by learning from the free download available at Gary Craig's website, which is listed in the "useful links" section. Whilst this is now a bit out of date and is rather "wordy" the information is still valid & effective. Better (in my opinion) "how to" instructions are available but these are not free, again see the links section. When more complex issues are being addressed it is not always possible to remain objective and in these cases the skill and experience of a trained EFT practitioner may be of great benefit.

Q I have had my problem for years, surely it will take years to treat it?
A It is the complexity if the issue that determines how difficult it is to treat. How long you have had the issue is irrelevant with EFT, some problems that have existed for many years are resolved very quickly.

Q My issue runs in the family, I doubt that anything can be done about it?
A Whilst you may inherit genetic characteristics that make you more pre-disposed to have some particular issue, emotional disturbances often trigger the onset and give ongoing support to the actual problem. Therefore there is still a very good chance that EFT can help you.

Q Will the results I get be permanent?
A If the core issue(s) that is driving your problem is resolved then it is most likely that the results will be permanent. Obviously the more complex the issues involved the more difficult this will be to achieve, but any EFT practitioner's aim will be to find & resolve your core issues. If you are working on yourself this should be your goal too.

Q Can EFT be used for children?
A Yes, young children are usually more accepting of new ideas, are in tune with their feelings and respond very well to EFT. Older children might be more sceptical that adults! You can read articles on EFT for children on Gary Craig's website (see links section).
